The Different Types Of Fertility Treatments

In a perfect world, every couple who wanted to have their own child would be able to do so naturally. Unfortunately, there are many different reasons that sometimes prevent this from happening. If one or both members of the couple have various biological complications, it can be very difficult to conceive a child naturally. In these cases, they may need to find a fertility clinic to help them. The first thing you need to do is a computer search for infertility treatment wherever you are located. The second thing that you need to do is become better educated about your options. There are several popular options that you should be very well educated about as you begin looking for a fertility treatment. This is a very personal decision and you need to be very aware of the pros and the cons related to each treatment. This will help you to come to the decision that is the best for you and your partner.

In Vitro Fertilization, sometimes known as IVF, is the most common treatment and it is the one most people are a little more familiar with. In this treatment, the eggs and the sperm are combined in a laboratory. Once the combination has produced embryos, they will be implanted into the woman. One of the decisions that must be made is how many embryos to implant. It is very rare for them all to survive, so it is a normal practice to implant more than just one. However, you have to be prepared for that possibility just in case it happens. Having a child will change your life, but having more than one child is an even bigger commitment.

Another type of treatment for infertility is Intra Uterine Insemination. This is sometimes referred to as IUI. For this type of a treatment, the female will be closely monitored by a fertility specialist. The specialist will determine when you are ovulating which will give you the highest chance of conceiving. As close to the peak time as possible, both partners will have to go to the office of the fertility specialist. At that point, a sperm sample will be collected. The sample will be “washed”, which means that the highest concentration and quality of sperm will be isolated. That washed sample will be injected into the female partner.

The ICSI treatment (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is very similar to the IVF treatment. The main difference between the two is that the sperm is not added to the petri dish. The sperm is actually injected directly into the egg. This process is typically used when the motility and quantity of sperm appear to be an issue.

The final type of treatment that you hear about is the use of fertility drugs. These drugs work in two different ways. Some of them are designed to help a woman to ovulate. Other fertility drugs focus on preventing a miscarriage. One thing that you need to consider if this is your choice is that there is a higher chance of multiple births.
