Womens Health A Serious Issue

Womens health is a serious issue nowadays. It is of utmost importance. Womens health refers to the health issues which are related specifically to the human females. Health issues regarding female genitalia, hormonal problems, menstruation, contraception, maternal health, child birth, menopause and breast care.

But recently the term has a broader meaning. It refers to all those diseases that are significant in terms of biological differences between males and females. But with a general medical approach the terms obstetrics and gynaecology come in.

Obstetrics and gynaecology
Obstetrics and gynaecology are related terms but there is a difference. Obstetrics refer to the medical problems and conditions related to pregnancy while on the other hand gynaecology refer to the general medical problems and conditions of female reproductive organ.

Pregnancy
Problems in pregnancy can vary in different phases. In other words pregnancy has a prenatal phase, childbirth and a postnatal phase. The prenatal phase is divided into three trimesters. In other words, it takes about nine months of pregnancy before the child can be delivered. Childbirth is the time when the child actually gets delivered. The female goes into labour in order to give birth. A lot of physical changes occur in this time. Hormonal changes coupled with pelvic dilation occurs. Vigorous uterine contractions give way to birth of the child eventually. Postnatal period refers to the time when the child has been delivered and the mother needs care to recover from the traumas of childbirth.

Some of the problems during pregnancy:
Ectopic pregnancy this is when the embryo gets implanted in the fallopian tube or in the ovary or in the peritoneal cavity instead of the uterus. This causes massive internal bleeding.

Pre eclampsia this is a condition which is defined by the signs and symptoms of maternal hypertension.

Placental abruption this is where massive bleeding occurs and the patient can bleed to death if not managed properly.

Fetal distress the fetus gets uncomfortable or it gets compromised in the uterine environment

Prolapsed cord it is the prolapse of the fetal cord during labour and this may give rise to fetal suffocation with the cord getting tangled around the neck of the fetus.

Obstetrical hemorrhage this may be due to a number of factors such as placenta previa, uterine rupture of tears. This can also be diagnosed with uterine atony, retained placenta or placental fragments, or bleeding disorders.
